Game Day, September 2015

Great Game Day (inauguration of the new kitchen) with a passel of people, a load of good food, and some fun game play. Titles played included:

Settlers of Catan (of course)
Exploding Kittens (of course, multiple rounds)
Betrayal at House on the Hill
Rampage
Big Bang Theory

Plus another game that Tim brought that I didn't get to play but that looked kind of fun and Hearts-like.

Okay, so there was probably more chatting and eating than gaming, but it was still a good time. Glad we could host everyone.

  1. How was Betrayal at House on the Hill? I read through the rules to see if it sounded like a fit for my group, and unusual co-op play made me hesitant to buy it. I also didn't like the idea of the figures doing double duty.

Did you enjoy Rampage? And was it Rampage or Terror in Meeple City?

Also, which BBT game did you play?

  2. Our usual gaming group is 4, but I've heard that Betrayal plays better with 5. I think one of these nights we might have to find an extra person to try it out. (I've only played once, and it was a merciless TPK.)

  3. Terror in Meeple City has become Rampage (as far as I can tell), since it was the game Stan gave me. A kinda mashup of Pitch Car and King of Tokyo. Now that I understand the strategy…

  4. Yeah, it was a fun game that we sadly did not get to finish. I want to play a full game and see how it ends. We had just gotten Doug in to Raven mode and I wanted to see how that worked.

So hopefully next time we can start with that one.

Thanks for bringing it +Tim White.

  5. +Scott Randel Rampage is the new name of Terror in Meeple City. From what +Mary Oswell was able to figure out, terror didn't test well with the public. It was a fun game, aspects of Pitch Car and King of Tokyo, want to play it again done I saw how some of the different strategies played out.

Betrayal is a fun game, and different from most co-ops (I love most co-op games except for Dark Shadows Over Camelot, which sucks with a half life of strontium 90) because the second half of the game is like D&D with 1 against the rest.

  6. +Stan Pedzick Actually, Terror in Meeple City is the new name of Rampage. I haven't heard an official reason the name Rampage was changed; most people seem to assume it's because of the game's similarities to the arcade game of the same name.

I have it, but have only played once. I was just curious as to what Dave's copy was named.

  7. I have Cosmic Encounter. Played once. Not a hit with my group, although I'd like to try it again.

Played TCID loads. I brought it to a local gaming meetup and was asked to bring it again the following week. I have the expansion, but haven't gotten it to the table yet.

  8. +Stan Pedzick The current Fantasy Flight version. Lacking some of the add-ons from the Eon version that I played post-graduate (interestingly enough, the Filch flare card comes in the "original, controversial" version and in the current rebalanced version).

My fondness for the game is largely nostalgic, from the group of friends. In reality, it's the kind of game that drives me nuts at times — highly competitive (in a confrontational fashion), combined with esoteric rules combinations as to which exception to the rule trumps which other one. "Flux Players of Catan."

So, again, my enjoyment of it is all about who I'm playing with. 🙂 Though I may have played my quota for 2015.
