It's a damned silly movie, but that's part of it's charm.

Think of it as a Roger Moore-era Bond, only more lovable. 3 stars out of 5, but a favorite.

Yeppers, 2 and & 4 are still my faves, but annoyingly you need to watch 3 to bring Spock back.
sigh+Stan Pedzick Yeah. We plowed through ST3 a while back. It's (as +Kay Hill would say) annoying. Except for Sulu telling the (fallen) security guard, "And don't call me 'shorty.'"
My favorite
+keith olszewski I'd still probably give the nod to Wrath of Khan, but ST4 gives it a good run for its money.
+Dave Hill Yes, i can see that but: fantastic scene in 4 with whale tail slap that was awesome with a good surround sound system. That's the tiebreaker for me.
+keith olszewski The whale animatronics were spectacular. The producers apparently got in trouble with them, in fact, as the footage was so convincing that some parties criticized them for getting so close to actual whales.
