And here is the trailer for "Star Trek Beyond"

Um …

1. Isn't it a bit premature to destroy the Enterprise? Okay, yeah, they did it in the third (original) movie, but it still feels a scosh gimmicky.

2. Quippy!

3. I'm trusting that's not the sound track. Really. Really-truly. (Whew! IMDb indicates Michael Giacchino is the primary composer again. Yay.)

4. Actiony!

5. Any bets as to whether Kirk ends up in bed with the alien female he's sparring with?

6. Actiony and quippy!

7. And motorcycles! (Wait, what?)

I'm sure there's a plot going on here. I just hope it's something more meaningful than this eye candy indicates.

  1. They have to blow up the Enterprise so they can have an ALL-NEW AND EVEN BETTER Enterprise. That's how it works these days. Will probably get blown up every other movie.

I know it was established in the first film that Kirk likes the Beastie Boys. That does not make it okay to use their music for the trailer. That was just weird.

Anyone who bets that Kirk doesn't end up in bed with alien chick isn't familiar with Star Trek.

Judging from the trailer, Karl Urban as McCoy is still the best part of the films, IMO. Can we just have an Adventures of Dr. McCoy franchise started?

  2. +Dan Eastwood I've seen a couple of dissections and declined to read them because … well, I'm on a cusp about potential spoilers. I'm sure it will mostly seep out. I'd rather just take on the trailer for all its Actiony vacuity goodness.

  3. I certainly hope so. I try not to judge movies tooooooo much by their trailers (esp. the first ones out the chute), but getting past that motorcycle is going to be … well, a big leap.
