Lucifer

Although the TV show is weak beer compared to the source graphic novel material (and then compared to the source material of that), we enjoyed the premiere episode of Lucifer.

I'm not sure how sustainable the current setup it is (given the protagonist's immunity to repercussions to his antics), but it's entertaining and intriguing seeing an examination of the roles of God, the Devil, punishment, duty, freedom, independence, selfishness, and compassion.

  1. Definitely can't be expecting a graphic novel adaptation when you tune in but the show is fun. The guy who plays Lucifer is perfect. Sort of looks like they're setting up to run two plots at once when the ball gets rolling. One with Lucifer helping the detective solve crimes and one with that other angel who's insisting that Lucifer return to Hell.

  2. +Dekks Herton True, 90% of the story was always around Patrick Jane, 60% of which was his interaction with Lisbon. The other three CBI investigators occasionally got some spotlight, but the show itself was always centered on Jane-as-a-mentalist and Jane-hunting-Red-John.

That said, having Lucifer work with a police team would be interesting. But we do have an ensemble in place — Mazikeen, the "good"angel, the cop's husband (and daughter) — just not all working together all the time. (It's unclear to me how much the husband and daughter will play a role in the ongoing show, but I suspect they will.)

  3. And what about the bartender? She gets a flashy intro, but after that all she does is whine to Lucifer about returning to hell and staying evil.

  4. Meh… this show is weaksauce in comparison to the richness of the comics. While the actor playing Lucifer is good, the choices made to deviate from the source material are extremely disappointing. The show is boring, extremely boring. I have no vested interest in any of these sub-characters at all. Police procedurals are a dime a dozen with the only difference here being… Lucifer.
