My daughter just finished reading the book for Language Arts, which seemed a good opportunity to watch the movie … the '74 Robert Redford / Mia Farrow version, that is.
3 stars out of 5. It's a lavish production, with a remarkable cast, but an ultimately hollow feeling. Which is, in a sense, appropriate.

(Personal note: I recall that, on release, my mom and dad saw this film, somehow as part of my dad's bank job. I think.)


I've seen three different film versions, and read the graphic novel version (see http://www.nickigreenberg.com/the-great-gatsby/) as well as the book, ages ages ago. The best adaptation was the graphic novel, even though it used "funny animals" instead of people.
