I guess this is Ted Cruz's way of (a) trying to give himself Big Business cred, (b) try and give himself some women's vote, (c) trying to shake up a news cycle that is full of "Boy, Donald Trump sure did win big this week" stories.
I doubt any of the three will work.
Fiorina has yet to win any political endeavor, and her main claim to fame — as CEO of HP — was truncated when the merger with Compaq she oversaw turned out to be something of disaster. On the other hand, she's shown she's not afraid of trading brickbats with Donald Trump, so there's that benefit here for Cruz.
A few other articles beyond the main "yes, he did it" below:
1. A nice look at some of the mean things Fiorina said about Cruz while she was running against him (though she did later endorse him after she dropped out): http://gawker.com/heres-carly-fiorina-ted-cruzs-new-running-mate-saying-1773471284
2. Some intelligent discussion among the various 538 folk about this move: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/can-carly-fiorina-save-ted-cruzs-candidacy/
3. And finally, I leave you with Barbara Boxer, who tweeted "I predict that the latest @CarlyFiorina merger will be as successful as her last one." [https://twitter.com/BarbaraBoxer/status/725437808115077121]
Ted Cruz names Carly Fiorina as VP pick
Ted Cruz formally named Carly Fiorina as his vice presidential running mate Wednesday — a last-ditch move to regain momentum after being mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP presidential nomination outright.
The best comment I have seen so far is, "Well, at least we know who won't be Vice President, now."
Maybe he’s trying to nice up the ticket. To him, Carly probably looks like sweetness and light personified… and compared to him, she is.
