Which was a good reminder for me to buy our tickets for opening weekend.
Black Panther set records this morning, selling more advance tickets in its first 24 hours than any previous Marvel Studios movie, edging out Captain America: Civil War for the crown.
As the article notes, advance sales don’t actually correlate well to final box office, but it does show a lot of interest in this film. What I’ve seen looks very good and very entertaining. I’m looking forward to it.
Black Panther Advance Tickets Sold More Than Any MCU Movie
Black Panther advance tickets sales are already proving that the Marvel movie will be a formidable force at the box office.

I don't think movies should any longer be judged a success based on ticket sales. Disney are loving it, of course, but it's misleading for future movie fans.
+Paul Scollon There are (and always have been) multiple criteria for a movie's success — artistic / critical merit, audience enjoyment ratings, whether it continues as a (cult) favorite or sinks into obscurity, and box office / ticket sales.
The financial success of the latter is what drives movie studios.
While it irks me that's sometimes the only criterion for success (given that my tastes sometimes differ from the general public), why do you think it is a "misleading" criterion?
+Dave Hill A lot of people view a past movie based on how much it made, rather than it's ratings. Movies making millions and millions before critics even get a chance to view, never mind cinema goers, is just wrong somehow. However, audience reaction is not gauged unless they go on to imdb or whatever and express it somehow.
+Paul Scollon Well, if your concern is just the advance ticket sales ("before critics even get a chance to view, never mind cinema goers"), that's an indicator, but usually gets swamped by the overall sales when looked in retrospect. And there have been a number of movies that opened really big, got really bad buzz and dropped off quickly that aren't considered "successful" (esp. since for many movies it takes prolonged domestic and overseas sales to reach profitability).
+Dave Hill This is all true….
