It just wasn’t the right kind of legal birth certificate. Except that’s not the rule.
Notice how it’s always, “We have hard and fast rules that you must comply with, but if one of our people has a whim to make it a harder rule, it’s all on you to comply.”
Followed by, “We can’t comment on this case you are raising on behalf of a private individual because we can’t comment on cases regarding private individuals because of privacy.”

We sometimes have bureaucrats with a similar mindset. Occasionally people will be told that they can't use an Extract of Birth Certificate because a form says Birth Certificate. The former is a perfectly legal form of identification and the latter can be quite hard to get hold of.

All i have to say is welcome to the Trump presidency . Where even if your family has been in America since the 1600's . Your not really an American citizen , even if you have a birth certificate . The insane years of the Trump presidency of paranoia . The rules and regulation that are in the books are not being applied due to the mindset of the currant republican government and their total paranoia about people who are not true Americans . The woman's story is so upsetting and shows us all what happens when bureaucracy goes terribly wrong . The one who refused her demand for a passport must be fired or retrained for sure . I would hate to be in her place at that time . Thankfully she went to the right government person that got them to give her the passport . There are some real dumb – asses that work for government agencies .
