Emptying more of the nest

With our September not absorbed with Marching Band activities this year, Margie and I are resolving to do more House Tidying Activities. Today's project: the basement, in particular the sector that was covered with boxes of old dishes, glassware, knick-knacks, kitchen objects, pottery, and other hazarai.

Result: clean counters, several boxes for Goodwill, several other boxes relocated to actual shelving, a trash can full of stuff, and a feeling of home-owner satisfaction.

  1. Looks great. What's next?

This is the first year in the last seven that I'm not at a HS Marching Band competition somewhere back in MO (or anywhere) now that both nieces are in college. I'm sure my brother and his wife are having no trouble filling in their "extra time".

  2. +Kee Hinckley That looks more like a reverse shot of the basement. Or perhaps the comic book / storage room on the other side of the wall there. If you wait for me to finish sufficient to do your garage next, you'll probably be too old to drive. 🙂

  3. +Chris Kim A We have quite a number more weekends to work on this. And, for that matter, all of those cabinets showing there (scavanged from a friend's kitchen after a remodel) are full of stuff that needs going through.

Or, put another way, one of the boxes we went through today hadn't been unpacked since we moved to this house — almost 23 years ago.

But on the plus side, we now have space to work on, to pull stuff out and examine (or re-box) it. That's a big part of the battle. That and being resolute about, "Okay, if we're going to keep it, where are we going to put it?"
