Not so far as I can tell. I mean, the animated version seems to still be quite rewatchable. (Indeed, it's on my binge list for my wife and me.)
Granted, that the show is being helmed by original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko is triffic news, and making something that drives the M. Night Shyamalan version completely out of mind[1] is not a bad thing. But, really, I'd rather see something new in the Avatar universe than a remake of something already wonderful.
Not that it will me stop me from watching, mind you.

[1] Or perhaps turning it into the same odd non-canon curiosity that the Peter Cushing Doctor Who movies are.
So maybe they won'n't take shortcuts and miscast?
+Laura Ess They have already promised to cast people of color, so that's an improvement. Whether they'll pick ones who resonate with the roles or ones who set my teeth on edge, I have no idea.
And can they pleeaaaseee pronounce the nigga name right
I recently heard something AMAZING on YouTube suggesting that they use the incredibly extensive list of past Avatars to create a story around. I LOVE that idea!
The two co-creators of the original anime are in charge of this one, as well.
Loved the animated series.
