What movie trailers did we see before our showing of Moana, and what did I think of them?
The Space Between Us – I'm not sure that the basic movie — teen lovers separated by some physical gulf that makes it difficult to be together — is all that original, but making that gulf be the boy being on a Mars colony and his pursuing the girl to Earth being actually physically dangerous to his health is, at least, a fresh twist, and they seem to be playing it as a straight romantic drama. I won't go see it, but more because it's not the kind of thing I like than any objective objection.
Rock Dog – The animation in this looked awful, the story ("follow your musical heart!") goes beyond cliche, and the weird setting of the protagonist's origins in Nepal (Tibet?) is an odd choice (with the exception of allowing them to have a character named "Fleetwood Yak"). Not on my list.
The Lego Batman Movie – When did Lego start making movies that I want to see more than the live-action versions?
Smurfs: The Lost Village – I have never been a Smurfs guy, and the Mystery of the Lost Village is both coyly hidden in the trailer and telegraphed as well. Nope.
Hidden Figures – I guess this ended up in here as an "inspirational story" about black women working at NASA in the early days of the space program. Sounds interesting in general, but I'd rather read the (inevitable) articles about the real thing.
Beauty and the Beast – Yeah, I will so go see this, though it definitely makes me want to watch the original animated more.
Cars 3 — Well, that got dark fast. Color me intrigued.
The thing about The Space Between Us trailer is it's basically the whole movie (the one I saw, anyway).
+Daniel Swensen The one I saw certainly could be. It would be nice to think that there were some twists we're not aware of, or that the passages from points A-Z are themselves worthwhile, but, yeah.
