3. I think this is the third live Les Miz I've seen (I saw my first in London, interestingly enough).

   I thought the orchestra was fantastic, and the set pieces and FX were very, every well done. The cast was good and solid, even if Fantine's voice was a bit weak, Javert tended to waver from the rhythm except on the belt-out notes, Mr. Thenardier's accent got almost incomprehensible, and Valjean was a bit too interested in stamping the role as his own in how he interpreted the piece in tone and rhythm. Those were relatively minor cavils, though.

   The music, of course, was superb as always (I even enjoy the songs by the characters I really dislike). One thing I had forgotten was how different the two acts are — Act 1 has several long scenes, setting up characters and motivation and telling a story. Act 2 is just about killing everyone in a chock-a-block of scenes.

   As far as I can tell, the moral of the story is "People are awful but God will sort them out after they die, in a good cause there are no failures, and true love will save you (but only if it's reciprocated)".
