I enjoyed on IMAX back in the day. Haven't seen it since. I did feel like it got unfairly criticized. It was meant to be big and bright and loud and a little silly — just like the show.
I freaking loved that show as a kid — cheesiness and all. Indeed, the whole idea that there could be an ongoing backstory element that evolved over time (the Mystery of Racer X!) was mindblowing compared to most cartoons of the era.
Plus, y'know, the Mach 5 was awesome.
I liked the movie version of Speed Racer and thought they got a lot of it "right".
Okay, well, if +Derrick Mims and +Mark Means and +Les Jenkins all liked the movie, then I must be okay for liking it, too.
Terrific article, incidentally. It reminds me of some of the things I liked about the film — and some stuff I have forgotten.

Only thing that got me to watch it the first time. The movie was quite good, imo.
+Kevin Peno Wouldn't be the first time I watched a movie just because she was in it.
I saw it in IMAX and it was gorgeously shot. Definitely under appreciated.
It got the cartoon right, and I lied that, but watching it gave me a migraine.
