Humans group socially. That's just part of our behavior. The problem with tribalism is not that it happens, but that it happens without our noticing it and that it too easily becomes Us vs Them, even when some of Us are doing some dodgy things.
If being a member of a tribe means defending actions you consider wrong or unjust simply because they were committed by other members of your tribe — is that a tribe you want to belong to?
