Back in September, the BookMarkSync (SyncIT) site went belly-up — major hardware melt-down (with brand-new Dell servers, no less) and no way to afford getting back on their feet.
So what did those fine people do? They took their labor of love and turned it over to some open source developers on SourceForge. And now you can download a copy for yourself and run it on your own server (or hosted server services) for free.
The installation process is not exactly the best-documented in the world, but I seem to have gotten my machine’s bookmarks synced up with my hill-kleerup.org server — which means that, once again, my bookmarks are being backed up, and I can access them from any Net-connected computer in the world. And once I’m convinced that all is running smoothly, I’ll get Margie’s machine syncing up, too, so that our bookmarks are all melded together in perfect, synchronized harmony.
