Some GOOD weather news for once

Not that folk should start putting sod back into their xeriscaped yards, mind you.

Colorado virtually drought-free after several thirsty years, report shows
Only about 2 percent of the state, limited to the extreme northwest and southwest corners, is still under a designation of “abnormally dry.”

Oh, the Weather Outside is … Extreme

While Sen. Inhofe (R-OK, and chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee) threw a snowball in the US Senate to demonstrate how "global warming" is obviously a hoax, the other half the nation was suffering from a much warmer than usual February.

Here in Denver, we had prolonged periods of warmth, but also record-breaking snowfall quantities.

'Tain't normal, Jim.

February was one of the most extreme months in U.S. weather history
Depending on where you live, February was either one of the coldest such months on record (the East) or the warmest (the West).

I love Colorado

It's 20°F out, but in the sunny spots where I shoveled inches of snow off the walk this morning, the pavement is clear and dry.

Kitchen Project – Day 107: Battening Down the Hatches

We have a forecast of 9-16" of snow over the next few days, so it was a race against the clock to get the rooftop work finished and the windows and siding in the extension done.

And, by gad, they did it. Looks great, too.

We still didn't get our garage sink connect yet, alas, but for the most part, the action will now be shifting to inside; the outside is largely done except for, y'know, the whole yard (including some retaining walls and patio).

Winter Is Coming (a bit late)

Okay, these aren't Northeast levels of snowfall (the purple bars, with quantities up toward the top), but they're enough to potentially put a crimp in some weekend plans in the Denver area.

This sure feels like how our weather changed yesterday

We didn't get the dust storm coming through at our house, but we did have some very powerful gusts blow through yesterday, shortly before "Late Summer" turned into "Pre-Fimbulwinter."

The Chills (or otherwise) of Halloween

We have all kinds here in Denver. We've had multiple inches of snow on the ground, or frigid winds. I've also gone on the Halloween rounds in shirt sleeves.

But I still wouldn't advise on going as anything that requires significant skin showing.

Hail, hail, piled up like snow

We had a major rain-and-hailstorm pass through the south metro Denver area this afternoon. The one shot here from the train doesn't do it justice, but the hail was stacked up like snow, and a lot of the foliage in the area was smacked pretty hard.

Good thing autumn's coming anyway.
