I could put the above info in the sidebar and update it there, as someone noted. But that would suggest an obsession with the game, like every other post was going to be about CoH or something, so I think I’ll give that a pass at the moment.
I set up Global Chat (“/chatbeta 1”), but I can’t figure out what I want to use as my “handle” — using a character name (the default, and, for me, currently “@Velvet Jones”) is a bit too … obsessive for my taste. But I don’t have a normal semi-anonymous nom de plume I use. And you only get one chance to redefine your handle. Hmmmm. It would, though, resolve the annoying problem of people building and changing around long lists of heroes for me to track. Ahem.
Our connectivity this weekend was really wonky. Mapserver disconnects way, way, way too frequent — except when in door missions (more limited maps) and while moving. Really irritating. I’m tempted to blame it on our network connection altogether, but that the server we were on (Champion) had an emergency we’re-kicking-you-off-now reboot last evening makes me think it wasn’t just us (though the problem didn’t seem to get better afterward). I did some preliminary research into a cable gateway; nothing resolved yet (and not likely to do so until next weekend at the earliest, anyway).
Margie’s all “What character do you want me to work on while you’re away on business this week?” To which I’m “What makes you think you won’t see me online? They have broadband at the hotel I’m at …”
I would have thought it was a CoH problem, except for the fact that I Mapserver’d once in the afternoon Saturday, while for you two it was like watching christmas lights blinking.
And it was usually one of you at a time, which made it very odd to watch. Thankfully, you all only discon’d once during a battle.
Arrg…wrong comment. Should have been on the other coh post.
On this post I was going to update my characters levels.
We were, indeed, both bobbing up and down. I suspect it was not CoH itself.
It seems relatively zone-dependent (busy zones are much more likely to provoke it; mish maps have it happen a lot less frequently).
When we were running, it was rare. If, when we stopped, I kept running back and forth like I was Hyperactive Lass, I tended to be okay. If I stopped completely (including to examine a group of thugs, or even to draw near and snipe the first), I was at a much higher chance to go out.
Bleah. I need to reexamine the “strategies to avoid this happening” stuff.
One thought.
When you are both playing you could lower the graphics levels. I know that when I lowered the particle count down to 1024 the dropping and rubber-banding issues decreased significantly.
So one level of settings when one of you is on, and a lower level when both of you are on.
P.S. Doyce: Remember friday when you mentioned the blaster/rifle targetting ‘driod. You are correct, after being near that person for 2 hours I was very annoyed with the sound. Did my best to stay away from her, or jept her on my right side, which for whatever reason didn’t bother me as much.
Zazi Sakurazaki – L12 Scrapper (katana/agile/conceal/leap)
Robenmatsu 3 – L12 Tank (SS/Inv/Leap/conceal)
MoFo Firefly – L13 Blaster (Elec/Ice/Flight/Conceal/leadership)
Puck Bunny – L11 controller (Grav/force/Leap/Leadership)
Played with macro’s this weekend and found them to be useful for RP issues. Need to come up with some good ones for each of the chraracters.
Puck’s are all very easy hockey terms.
I have the particle count down to 2000. I might try dropping it more.
Say “Hi” to @Avocet when you fire up Global Chat. Not coincidentally, my first hero’s name is the same as the handle I post under here (and elsewhere), so I guess I’ll keep that in GC. Could you use ***Dave, or are asterisks forbidden? (Hey, we could have ***Dave, ***Doyce, ***Stan, etc!)
Hmmm. Hadn’t thought of the asterisks. That would work.
Or, worse-comes-to-worse, “Three-Star Dave.”
I want to be sure to get it “right,” since you only get one rename for the global chat account.
Added the Rhinoplasty to Triumph.
a Spines/Dark Scrapper.
Much fun with both powers.
Champion
Zazi 16
Mofo 16
Roben 16
Puck 16
Cuinas Bas 6
Triumph
the Rhinoplasty 6
Also…If you get hooked into the Atta mission (hollows, I’ve not seen it before), take it. Roben was on it Saturday. 14 boxes of x, 24k influence, but it takes at least 2 hours, and somebody that can heal.
That’s the one I’ve been waiting for a chance to team with the lot of you for!
What do you do, bd, stop when you get a character to 16?
Cool Avo, I’m in.
Let me (us) know the mix you need, and bring your other friend along as well. If done right with P-Siren’s big bubble, we may not need a healer. Say Velvet, P-Siren, Zazi, Avocet, and your friend’s Character for the team up (or if we can convince Doyce to bring in Girl 5).
No, I’ve just been moving them all up a level at a time. Depending on time and SG things I may start playing some more often then others. !6th looks like a good level to leave some folks for a while.
I’ve actually made it a point NOT to invite my friend (who’s name is Dave!) along. He’s not a very good team player, as he has no patience. In CoH, as in Star Wars Galaxies, I’ve died many a needless death because of his tendency to charge in. I’m just beginning to impress on him the importance of waiting until his Blaster teammate (he’s a Tanker, about the only archetype that would suit his play style) has regained sufficient health and endurance. I don’t know; maybe a well-run team would actually encourage him to slow down and think before charging after Frostfire, but I’m afraid to try it and have him be responsible for a massacre (OUR massacre!).
I had two hunting missions in Faultline today. I had the good fortune to hook up with a very good team. We completed my missions, and I got the 10,000 xp needed to level up to 18 (everybody else levelled before I did; they were nice enough to keep the team together until I dinged). I expected my first foray into Faultline to be a harrowing experience, if not a disaster. Most pleasing.
