New backgrounder on the Sky Raiders is up on the official site.
I like these backgrounders, and the take the CoX setting beyond what little glimpses one gets in the game (where one tends to focus as much on combat tactics as backstory) — but I wish there was even more integration between the info in them and the dialog, actions, and missions concerning these groups.
I’d have to agree, though I will point out that this particular backgrounder is pretty much taken whole-cloth from the main Sky Raider story arc you get in the mid-to-high-20’s, right up to where it hands you off to the Nemesis guys that are funding the whole thing.
One of the things I like best about CoH is the network of faction dependency — with the exception of Vahz and Clockwork (who largely peter out early) every early faction reports-up to some bigger faction up the food chain a ways. It feels like a game of Illuminati. 🙂
Not sure that I’ve ever delved into that arc that fully. In fact, pretty sure I haven’t (we usually end up whomping on something else in that level range).
I just wish there was a way in game for some of this (public) knowledge to not be readily apparent outside of mission text. “Those awful Sky Raiders – will they try to take the city over again?” comments one passerby. “I have to wonder what turned Col. Duray and his Sky Raiders against the government?” comments another.
Police band mission text could explicate some of this, too, now.
Even some comments by the baddies when in battle could be handy. Ditto for other groups.
