Change of Blog, Part 2

Okay, I’ve done the conversion to WordPress, and everything seems to be working pretty decently. There are still a few things I need to tweak — this template has a very odd interactions with simple low-level CSS and HTML formatting commands, for one thing. For another, I want to finish stripping away the “.html” suffixes, but haven’t quite figured out how.

But, at any rate, it’s in place, and I can tweak things as I go.

Any feedback?

  1. ooo shock of the new….

WordPress rocks more than any php based app has a right too, but thats just personal prejudice…..

Just a thought, I use WP Spamfree rather than a Captcha base spam blocker, it seems to work fine

  2. Yeah — the design here was basically unchanged from the blog launch in Feb. 2005, so it really needed an update, esp. since I’ve been converting other stuff to WP from MT, and because my MT setup was screwed up.

WE Spamfree looks good (though I’m not sure I agree about the pct who run Cookies and Java). On the other hand, the whole concept of reCAPTCHA is so cool I just have to use it. And you can bypass it by registering (over in the sidebar).

  3. The way this template handles formatting via CSS is driving me nuts — sufficiently so that I may be changing my mind on the choice before the end of the day, unless I can figure out a consistent way to have the formatting within blockquote not be affected by the formatting outside of blockquotes, and vice-versa. Rrg.

  4. Okay, I swapped out the Slate theme for the Win7blog theme. Minor tweaks (date format, getting ShareThis back on the posts), plus adding a new custom favicon (courtesy of http://www.degraeve.com/favicon/index.php ) and I’m much happier.

Except I need to do the “color my comments something different” thang. But that is trivial.

    Enjoy!
