I’m baaaaack …

After (1) illness, (2) job brouhaha, (3) NaNoWriMo, and (4) a week-long business trip …

… I’m actually back in the game (so to speak).  Just in time, of course, for (5) Christmas shopping, (6) Christmas carding, and (7) Christmas vacationing.  So we’ll see.

Meantime, I haven’t gotten onto CoX or CO yet … but if I were at liberty to describe what I’m doing … which, in theory, I’m not … since hypothetically anything I might say about things I can’t say anything about might violate an NDA that, of course, I can’t confirm that I’ve agreed to, even though it’s regarding something where no man has ever gamed before.

Ahem.

It’s all Margie’s fault.  But I had a lot of fun for the 15 minutes I was on until the hypothetical event limit was reached.  We’ll see.  (And since I saw a lot of folks logging in and out, we’ll see you, too.)

  1. Annoyed…

    Still no Invite. 🙁

Also, if you post in the forums, post in the correct one, =P

  2. And we could see whenever you logged in or out, too. I’m not sure they want to integrate the Friends lists that closely …

  3. If I were at liberty to discuss such matters, I’d mention that the improvement in just 3 sessions has been amazing. This might be an ok thingy that I can’t talk about after all.

  4. I don’t remember if I got one or not. Did it get spam-filtered in your mail?

  5. BD – I got the tell you sent today and assumed you were on our side of the curtain. Did you get the tell I sent back?

    Whales department’s

  6. Yeppers, I did. Dave ignored his tell’s as per usual. =P I find that it will be very cool that you will be able to communicate between the two games, a great idea that someone should have come up with long ago.

The dev’s have said that 6m and Lifetime subs should be in before the end of the month, so I am guessing that I will get mine after the 20th….elsewise someone will have some ‘splaining to do if I do not get one at all.

  7. I kept seeing you in and out too. I have to say, the that I played on Saturday left me really feeling like a and like I was in an episode of . I agree with above remark that things do seem to be improving by leaps and bounds.

  8. Heh… every time I wrote “redacted” in brackets, it disappeared from my post above. I should have remembered that greater than/less than signs are HTML code.

  9. Here’s what I posted on the S.O.L.O. Fleet site after a serendipitous online encounter last week:

I might, hypothetically speaking, have encountered Hythian today if I were in a (again, hypothetical) beta that I could not talk about if such were the case. If that had actually occurred (and I am by no means saying that it did), it is possible that his handle was similar enough to that of a player I knew in City of Heroes that I googled it and came across this site.

I cannot, of course, disclose that I am, in fact, in such a beta test. I will say, though, on a *completely unrelated* matter, that a lifetime sub to CO included a spot in the Star Trek Online beta. But that’s neither here nor there.

If anybody in CO wants to find me when I’m online, my main is Avocet@AmAvocet.

  10. @Jae – Thought you were being cute by just leaving words out. 🙂

I am disliking in STO that when you zone you generate an “signed out” “signed in” pair. Cluttery.

@BD – Not sure why the CO/STO tells never catch my attention, while CoX ones used to.

  11. I miss tells because the box is so tiny, and with only about 3 lines of space, stuff scrolls off really fast. I have the same problem with CO. Dang it, I want to be able to enlarge it for my ancient eyes, and then hit a single key to make it go away when I need to see the whole screen. It also seems that wherever I put the darned thing, it’s covering something else I need to see as well.

@Dave – I hate the sign in/sign out clutter too.

  12. What in the galaxy was up with your connection last night? You were winking in and out as if a spatial anomaly were distorting the fabric of the universe!

I mean, you would have been if you were doing anything online that you couldn’t talk about if you had been doing it.

  13. I think that is zoning in the thing that shall not be named. They blinky blinky all night long. =P

  14. One of these times we will have to see if “invite to team” works across both games. =P1

  15. Yes, whenever you zone in the hypothetical game — including going in and out of star systems, beaming up and down from planets, etc. — it generates a sign-in/out message (across the Crypticverse). Very annoying. But it also seems to happen for CO when zoning in and out. At least one person I know who was not hypothetically playing a hypothetical game kept showing up as zoning in/out. Essentially, any shift between instances/zones.

Jae, like you, I usually miss the sound effects. I need to create a window just for chat, so that I have a chance to spot tells before the standard cruft scrolls it away. (Plus to CoX: tabs that have content since last viewed are bolded.)

Though, to be fair, I’m pretty bad at responding to tells in-game. There’s usually so much else to do on the keyboard. And I’m spoiled by having my main duo partner being just a raised voice away.

  16. Oh, so it is both games that blinky? How odd, since that does not happen when everyone is in the non-hypothetical game.

  17. Well, CO is less instantiated, so it’s gonig to be less so. But, yeah, I think every time you go into an instance map, into/out of a zone (including the Powerhouse), you appear to sign-out/in.

  18. So, are we allowed to talk about this yet? If I’d been playing it for the past few weeks, I’d probably be keen to discuss it openly and to hear what other people who may also have been playing it think. 🙂

Also, once it is to be openly discussed, will it be discussed on this blog? Hope so.

  19. I’m not thrilled that it took around 24 hours to download the retro-patched game… ah well… onward to open beta!

  20. Stuart, apologies — around the time STO became public, I was eyeball-deep in Real Life.

I owe y’all a post on STO, for sure.
