Much like its author, this recipe is a no-fuss classic. And it’s super easy to make. So easy, in fact, that baking a batch of these might just become part of your weekend routine.
Ingredients:
- ½ c cocoa powder or 2 oz unsweetened dark chocolate
- ½ c butter (1 stick)
- 2 eggs
- 1 c sugar
- ¼ c flour
- 1 c chopped or broken-up walnuts or pecans
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Pinch of salt
Directions:
- Heat oven to 325°.
- Melt butter in saucepan with cocoa.
- Stir until smooth.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
- Stir in sugar. Yes, right into the pan. Mix it all in the pan, one less thing to wash.
- Whisk in eggs, one at a time.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Mix in flour and salt.
- Add nuts.
- Stir until just combined.
- Pour into a greased 8 x 8-inch-square pan.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake; the brownies should be gooey.
- Let cool, then cut into bars.
- Enjy while watching your favorite Katharine Hepburn movie.
Serves: Makes 12 brownies
