Unblogged Bits for Saturday, 06 June 2009

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  • LotR re-read: Fellowship movie re-watch – This series of articles has been stepping through the books chapter-by-chapter. Having finished the first book, she’s looking at the movie, and there’s a lot of goodness here. I do still want to have an all-day LotR movie party …
  • David Eddings (1931-2009), In Memoriam – I read and moderately enjoyed The Belgariad, though not enough to get into the rest of his work. Certainly a man of much imagination and productivity who took the Tolkienesque epic and made it his own thing.
  • Obama’s green guru calls for white roofs – Telegraph – An interesting suggestion, but while I’d suspect the greatest resistance would be from homeowner associations (“it just wouldn’t fit with the aesthetics of the neighborhood”), the collection of wingnuts, Randians, and scientific illiterates in the article’s comments is truly breathtaking.
  • Google’s Page Speed Optimization Add-on – Making a note of this one.
  • Retro Google – That’s pretty fun, too.
  • Google’s Tetris Logo – Very cool.
  • Tom Swifties – “I love these,” said Dave, too lazy to think of a punny adverb to use.
  • Ask Maggie: Nine Toddler Things I Can’t Live Without – Best advice here (though it’s all fun) is to decide up front on a brand of sippy cup and just super-saturate your cupboard with them. No fumbling for disparate pieces or similarly-threaded caps.
