Tinkering with my blog continues. A few items of note:

  • I’ve moved the “most recent comments” (actually “most recently commented-upon posts”) stuff over to the sidebar, where it doesn’t format quite as nicely, but is out of the way of the actual content.
  • I’ve expanded the number of Categories I’m using a bit, so that the individual category archives don’t get too unmanageably big. Right now I need to break out the “News & Views” category a bit. I’ve also started listing the categories in the footer of each post.

  • Because of the above two points, I’ve moved the Blog archives up toward the top of the sidebar, pushing the Poll down a bit.

  • I’ve included the code that Doyce has used for a while to rotate the Blog window title between loads. Cool stuff, and hopefully entertaining.

Feedback is, as always, welcome.

  1. “I’ve moved the “most recent comments” stuff over to the sidebar…”

-yeah, I like it better there…
Your site requires Lots of Scrolling, as it stands… I like the graphic, but I am always in a rush to get to the latest posts…

So I am glad you moved it off to the side…
    thanks.

  2. Yeah. Lots of scrolling. Lots of text.

And, yeah, I fear that Barry Windsor-Smith’s Sibyl is not long for the page, since it only make for more scrolling, as much as I love her.

I’m playing, conceptually, with the idea of a 3-column blog, like Doyce’s, which would allow for the Sidebar of Incredible Length to be split in two. Unfortunately I don’t like pages opening up in their entire width, which is much more likely with a 3-column layout.

    Thank you for the feedback.

  3. Hrm. Yeah, y’know, I think I recall that one of these test entries screwed up JavaScript on my main page when it was up and running. But I don’t remember which one now. Nrtz.

  4. Nailed it. One of the tests had some malformed mouseover stuff in it, so I just made it a normal link. Fixed it, nice and neat. Thanks for the alert.

Did notice something interesting, was the “bit rot” setting in on the images. Hmmmm. Wish there were an easy way to permanently cache the things, short of download-upload-point.

  5. By default now, I download every graphic for personality tests, and keep it in my blog graphics folder.

I know it means I’m storing stuff (41 tests now, I think. Spent some time earlier this week categorizing all my posts), but with the neat MT Upload feature, it gives me the code to replace the cut’n’paste of the quiz.

  6. I’ve been thinking of adopting the title code to read from my fortune cookie file.

Either that or making it a horoscope. Sometimes when you load it’ll say, “Taurus: Look behind you!” and sometimes it’ll say, “Pisces: Give it up. You just can’t explain depth-perception to a blind man.”

And sometimes I think too much.
