An Egyptian man pulls out a pistol and begins shooting at the El Al ticket counter at LAX, killing three before he, himself is gunned down, and what’s the focus of this news story? Was it terrorism?
I’m sorry, is the purpose behind the question to know whether we should be afraid of some widespread terror conspiracy? As if that would make us somehow more or less safe from crazy Egyptians opening fire at ticket counters?
“We can’t rule that out, but there’s nothing to indicate terrorism at this point,” FBI spokesman Matt McLaughlin said, suggesting it might instead be a hate crime.
“We’d have to find some connections to a terrorist group,” he said.
Israel’s foreign ministry blamed terrorism, but didn’t offer any evidence.
Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn said on Friday that the gunman appeared to be acting alone.
“We certainly don’t have information yet though to make him part of any conspiracy. It does appear to be something that only involved him,” Hahn said on NBC’s “Today” show. “We do think it is an isolated incident, but the matter is still under investigation.”
I’m not sure how you distinguish between “terrorism” and “hate crimes,” particularly in this context, but this obsession with the “terror” aspect, vs. the fact that some guy frickin’ shot a bunch of people at the airport seems to be a bit … oddly disproportionate.
Remember I sent you an email a while ago where I said you were everywhere cuz I’d run into you from 3 different sources in 2 days? (hint: it was probably from a ‘Tanya’). Ya, so here I find myself roaming back into your page from yet another source, which I stumbled into off a daily read. I YEILD! I’ll read regualrly, I promise, just stop freaking me out all the time by permeating every corner of the internet!!!! *laughs*
You know how they say that you’re six degrees form everyone?… I believe!
well, i don’t know what the media’s doing, but it’s a whole different investigation for the cops, fbi, etc. the need for better airport security is the same, but everything would differ.
Naturally it was terrorism, it was an egyptian man. One that had an ID that said he was born on July 4th.
