It’s time for the most fabulous Q&A of the week! It’s the Thursday Thumb-Twiddler.
1. If you could (a) prevent an earthquake in Peru that will kill 40,000, (b) a crash at an airport near you that will kill 200, or (c) an automobile accident that will kill an acquaintance of yours, which one would you choose to avert?
I suppose it depends on the acquaintance. Hrm. I’d hate to see any of my friends die, but in exchange for 40k lives? I think most of them would probably agree it was a worthwhile exchange.
All bets are off viz my household, though. I’d not only allow an earthquake to destroy Peru to save Margie or Katherine, I’d push the button on the Evil Earthquake Machine myself if that’s what it took.
2. You’re engaged to someone in a distant city, but find yourself physically attracted to someone who lives close by. Would you have an affair with this person, if you knew there was no chance it would ever be discovered?
I’m not a big believer in “would never be discovered,” to be honest. These sorts of things have a way of biting one in the butt later on, I suspect, and even if it didn’t, I would know, and there are limits on my ability to delude myself.
So the answer is no. Because it would be wrong. Because I would rightly feel guilty as hell over it and spill the beans. And because, frankly, it wouldn’t be worth it.
3. If someone were to give you a $100 gift certificate for your birthday, what store would you want it from?
Heh. You have to ask?
