Cross-purposes

Some Congressfolk — Republican, mostly — are pushing for federal support (moneywise) into ways to stop foreign governments from censoring the Web from their citizenry. A good, laudable thing.

I’m waiting for someone to point out to them, though, that the US government keeps passing laws mandating “filters” on public library Internet stations, to block “obscenity” from children (and adults). Not to mention laws (such as the DMCA) that let folks (such as the RIAA and MPAA) demand that ISPs block foreign domains that allegedly carry pirated software, music, etc.
