After bailing out of US Bank to the conveniences and joys of Safeway Select Bank, and getting all our balances transferred and automatic withdrawals withdrawing and so forth … imagine our unbounded joy to have received this letter today (well, yesterday):

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, the parent company of Amicus FSB, which provides financial services under the Safeway SELECT brand, has determined that its US electronic banking operations are not meting expectations. After careful consideration, we at Amicus FSB have made the decision to file an application with the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) to close Amicus FSB.

I.e., the ever-so-convenient bank in our grocery story is closing. Dagnabbit.

The accounts — those with $1000 or more — are being acquired by E*TRADE bank. But it doesn’t sound like E*TRADE is buying the physical outlets. No idea what’s happening to those. The ATMs will stop accepting deposits (but will still give out money) until the accounts are transferred, etc.

So, regardless, all the automatic deposit, automatic withdrawal, automatic this-n-that keyed to our checking accounts will be kaput, regardless of who we choose.

How sucky.

  1. Well, okay. I’ll accept that. And, those…..I don’t mind.

I’m so nitpicky with corporate letters. I pounce when I see typos, fragmented sentences, run ons, etc. I even went and proofed the OFFICIAL JCAHO handbook that my former hospital put out. I handed it back to the education department with the corrections. I couldn’t believe no one had proofed it before printing.

  2. I agree. Banks do suck. Amsouth sucks very bad. When you deposit your payroll check, if it is NOT drawn on Amsouth, it does not go through until the NEXT business day. If it is an Amsouth check, then you have immediate access. Keeping this in mind, after you deposit your non-Amsouth payroll check, the ATM will let you draw out but Amsouth charges you $30 for overdraft fee.
How is that for a bank?!!!

  3. AmSouth bank sucks bad… I can’t believe they just notified me about closing ALL of my 3 accounts (2 personal and 1 business) for no reason, just because “according to Customer Agreement, we elect to close your account bla-bla-bla…”.

I’ve been with them for about 3 years and had only minor problems, but what pisses me off that they refused to tell the reason under no circumstances. My accs never been overdrafted, always has been a “valued customer”, great average balances, now for no reason it screws my business and personal finances pretty bad, since I have to change all electronic debit/credit info.

STAY AWAY FROM AMSOUTH. Worse bank ever.

  4. I’m with you on BANKS SUCK. Stay away from Fifth Third Bank. They send you striaght to fee hell, and can’t seem to process a check right to save their souls. There is now a website dedicated to bank fees, I’v had it being fee’d to death. This crap has to come to a stop! I’ve never been so angry in my life over something as I am this issue.

    Thanks for letting me post.

    Debbie
