The finalists for the WTC rebuild have been announced. I like ’em.
I think a generation will look back on the design choices made here, and applaud. They are not so “out there” that they will immediately look dated, but they are not the safe-but-dull proposals that were originally developed.
The final design will be picked by the end of the month.

There ok…but I would have loved to have seen the Gaudi design built.
I like the ground level effects of the one you have pictured. But I’m not really liking the “Towers o’ Emptiness” effect on the top 2/3’s.
I think I like the big empty frameworks, but what the hell is that thing in the middle that joins them supposed to be? I looks like a plane, which is just… creepy.

Dave, the picture before that one says that it’s a Memorial-Museum. So it is a Bridge between the two different towers.
It looks like the towers are not going to be anything more than empty space.

Just to show I don’t always slavishly agree with James Lileks, he doesn’t particularly care for the designs. I can see his point, but I’m so pleased to see something that isn’t just business-as-usual.
I like none of those. But Liebeskind’s project seems to be the less “worst” of all…
