I have discovered that, for me, the very best way to learn a new RPG is …
… to write documentation for it.
Not to create a character (though that helps). Not to play in a game. Not even to RTFM. To write documentation. Rules synopses and intros. Cheat sheets. Character sheets. That forces me to read things. To consider how things work. To look for and test relationships you think are there. To identify where there are gaps.
It also makes me spend time on it, which is always in short supply.
Which is why I’m yawning a lot this morning.
I am right there with you, bro.
You’ll have to show me how the little ‘format buttons’ go into the comment template so Stan can stop screwing hrefs up on my site 🙂
Did I screw up something else? Damn switches.
My bad.
The buttons work really well, as does the abilty to preview.
For me, Play testing things forces me to read the books and really get to know things. Otherwise, when I just read through the book and get the cursory overview of the rules with out the understanding.
I’ve forwarded you the code, but I basically lifted it straight from the MT edit screens. I find it invaluable.
I don’t learn games either, unless I’m writing up stuff for them.
Off to explore the Ivy & Hyacinth pages.
