A nice litle collection of TV news channel slogans.

Assonance is big in the News Biz:

Live, Local, Latebreaking
Dedicated. Determined. Dependable
Coverage, Community, Commitment

But the winner seems to be this slogan, which shows up on stations across all state lines, and across all networks:

Coverage You Can Count On

Do people buy these things in some sort of big News Slogan Market? (“Hey, Fred! We just sold that ‘Coverage You Can Count On’ one again!”) Are there rules about how close two stations can be with the same slogan?

Of course, there are always those who believe in too much of a good thing, like Dayton’s CBS affiliate WHIO:

Live, Local, Latebreaking Coverage You Can Count On

Right. Don’t give up your day jobs, guys.

UPDATE: That’s not assonance, but I’m drawing a blank as to what it is. Something like that, though.
