The Blogger Meme. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but running across it one more time made me just sit down and do it.
I’m going to eschew Doyce’s “No name named more than once” rule, just because it’s too difficult. My blog, my rules. On the other hand, I’d probably have to go there if Margie would actually start a blog, so maybe that’s the silver lining there.
I am going to limit it to folks on my blogroll. That’s probably an artificial limit, but, what the heck. If I opened it up to everyone in the blogosphere, I’d never get anywhere with it.
And, it need not be said but I have to anyway, not making it onto this list doesn’t necessarily mean anything. That’s the biggest danger with something like this (and one reason I didn’t leap on the meme as soon as I saw it) — that you’ll give offense, inadvertently or unavoidably. Caveat lector.
The blogger I’d trust with my life:
Well, I sort of have to vote for Doyce here, for any number of reasons. Hell, he probably has saved my life on one occasion or another that slips my mind. Runners Up: a number of folks on my blogroll seem like extremely honorable, helpful, and dependable people, and could probably be so trusted whether they know me or not.
The blogger I can trust with my deepest, darkest secrets:
The Real Live Preacher, for obvious reasons. Not that I have, but I think I could. And he could probably help shed some light on some of them, too.
The blogger who makes me laugh the most:
Marn. No question. Her wit and humor always put a smile on my face and a chuckle in my throat. Runners Up: Lileks, Bill, Matthew.
The blogger who makes me think the most:
This is a tough one. A number of folks inform my thinking, or lead me to places that cause me to consider what I think. Some folk make me think by making me click on the the close-window button so hard that my index finger (or mouse) fractures, but that’s useful, too. I’ll pick someone at semi-random and choose Volokh, or his various co-conspirators, who often provide some interesting legal and Constitutional perspective on matters that I’ve not considered. Runners Up: SDB and Rich.
The blogger I’d like to live near:
… that I don’t already. Probably Marn again.
The blogger I’d like to have as a roommate:
That’s tough, since I’m not good roommate material (and have gotten worse over the years, I suspect). There’s a number of folks on the list I’d love to drop by and visit (and have gotten some offers to that end), but that’s different.
So I’ll have to cop-out and say Margie, even though she doesn’t have a blog. Yet.
The blogger I’d like to go to Disneyland with:
Probably Doyce again, since that would mean Margie and Jackie going along, too, and that would just be fun.
The blogger on my blogroll who is most similar to me:
Brian, probably. I read some of his stuff, and I can see myself typing it, esp. if I shave a decade away. Spooky, sometimes.
The blogger on my blogroll who is most different than me:
“Different” is such a difficult word. Scott and Adam are dead opposites in politics (except where they’re not). Peter and Glenn have very different professions from mine. Julia and Anne (among others) are a different gender. Marital status, kiddedness, geographical location, sexual orientation, religion, income, aesthetics … the link list contains folks that are very different from me in any of those categories. And there are still others whose differences are unknown to me, because of the impersonal nature of their blog.
On the other hand, anyone who’s too alien to me in interests, status, disposition, is likely not to even be on my blogroll.
So I don’t think I can answer that question. Yes, it’s cop-out time again.
Five bloggers I’d like to have a slumber party with:
Crikey, I think most of the folks over there would be a hoot to have over for a long evening of drink and discussion. Really.
Hmmm. James, Marn, Doyce, Nicholas, Stacy. But many, many others on the wait list.
That’s exactly what I said about Speaker.
I must say, if you are where I am headed…my future’s looking better all the time. Heh.
Just avoid the salmon mousse on your 39th birthday …
Noted: Nix…the…salmon…mousse…
Got it. Thankee.
