Very cool. Loudon Wainwright III is appearing in concert up in Boulder next month, and Margie and I are going. We caught his concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens a couple of summers back and had a blast.
For those unfamiliar with him, LWIII is a guitar-strumming singer-songwriter who specializes in wry, sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant, sometimes both, commentary, particularly of an autobiographical kind. He’s in his 50s, and has been doing this schtick since the early 70s. He is probably most famous for his tune, “Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road),” which is an awful shame. He’s also done a fair number of TV appearances (including as a recurring guitar-playing surgeon on M*A*S*H).
Good stuff. Early birthday present (as bought; late, as delivered) for Margie.
He usually comes through at least once a year…Always a good show.
May he’ll play “Cardboxes” and you can think good thoughts about Rey and Julie…
He has a Quebec connection, having been married to one of the McGarrigle sisters, gifted musicians in their own right.
Their son, Rufus, after a run with drugs, alcohol and too much risky sex (he’s gay) seems to have straightened out and has just released another album. He’s worth a listen, too.
I had completely forgotten about the harmonic goodness that was the McGerrigle Sisters.
