Upon consideration, we realized that keeping Kitten in two pre-school classes was madness (for us, if not for her), so, with some regret, we’ll be pulling her out of the Dry Creek pre-school after today. It’s a shame, because she’s enjoyed it, the teachers have been great, and it’s very convenient.
On the other hand, I think the other school will be good, too, and in conjunction with the speech therapy, will be the place for her to be.
It’s good timing, too. They have their Christmas Holiday Winter Disney party today, so it will be a nice send-off. Then, with the two week break for her, it will be the perfect time to start at the new school. She’s excited about that prospect, though I don’t know if it’s sunk in that she won’t be going back to Dry Creek. I do hope that transition isn’t too jarring for her. She’s changed pre-school programs before, and I haven’t observed her making any serious friendships with anyone there, but, still …
(Heh. Just occurred to me. The facility she’s going to be going to is the Village for Early Childhood Education, a/k/a the Village. I wonder if I should teach her to call herself “Number 6” …)
Obscure references to “The Prisoner” would be appropriate though probably lost on the kids and most of the adults there I’m sure. Still, it’d be good for your own personal amusement.
Actually, it works on a number of levels.
The more I think of it, the more of a creepy feeling I get.
“I am not a Nuh-er! I am a Free Kitten!”
Keeping her in one school makes more sense. It’ll give her a sense of continuity, she’ll make friends, establish bonds with her teacher (or teachers), etc. And it’ll be less stressful on you in trying to shuttle back and forth (“If it’s Wednesday, it must be the other school!”).
We’re trying to do the same, but for economic AND continuity reasons. Since I’ve been laid off, and my wife has returned to work, I’ve been desperately trying to find a job that will fit Young Miss Laura’s “Pre-K-4” schedule so that we don’t have to yank her out and put her back into daycare (which of course, would be full-time).
My best hope so far is an application I’ve made to be a “911 Dispatcher/Operator” with the town, on the “second shift”. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Working in NYC again is not going to work out, given that my former industry continues to shed employees!
