  • In flying into Orange County last Thursday night, I was giving Margie location checks out the window. “We just passed over I-5,” I noted — and immediately realized I’d been living outside of California for too long. Californians — Southern ones in particular — never demarcate interstates with an “I.” They just say, “the 5” or “the 210” or “the 10” — and grant other routes equal status, including state highways “the 57” and “the 60.” Or they use the highway names — “the Golden State,” “the Foothill,” “the Hollywood” (which actually encompasses three different freeway numbers in its length), “the Santa Monica,” etc.

But never, ever, an “I-” this or “I-” that.

    And now you know.

  • Ate dinner last night at the White House in Anaheim. Very chi-chi, but good food, decent servings, and amazingly overpriced wine. Kurt and Marina were with us, friends of old, celebrating their 15th Anniversary. Huzzah!

  • Traffic is lighter this week than normal, it being the holidays. Nonetheless, it’s horrific, and it’s taking me 90 minutes to make it to and from the Ks and the Pasadena office. Mercifully, when I go to into the office next week, I’ll be down in Cypress, only about 20 minutes away (and with places to walk for lunch).

  • I managed to leave home without my charger for my cell phone. Oops.

  • Ginger was using this morning a really cool spatula that was all blade, about the size of a dinner plate. Excellent for lifting cakes and large pastries and the like between pans and dishes. Anyone sees one, Margie would love it.
