Katherine had a friend of next door over this afternoon. And since they were playing upstairs, I went to change the channel on the TV, and decided to put in a Jonny Quest DVD.

“Oh! Oh! You have to see this!” Katherine said, coming downstairs, then running back up to grab her visitor. “This is so cool! It really makes me rock and roll!”

Yes, you heard it: a child waxing enthusiastic about a parent’s choice of media while their friends are over.

I plan to savor that for the next 20-odd years …

  1. Of course, it just *might* have something to do with the nature of the media choices of the parent in question. If you were the kind of guy who watched Masterpiece Theater for fun, I bet she wouldn’t respond in quite the same way. To put it another way, how many parents do you think are watching Johnny Quest on DVD?
