Dora is (mercifully) on the outs, but Teen Titans and the Backyardigans are current big hits for Katherine. And, of a mercy, both are enjoyable to us, too.
The Backyardigans is a CG “musical” show, about kids imagining “the whole wide world in our yard to explore.” They journey to the Old West, to Haunted Houses, to Spy Missions … all great stuff. The transition effect as they enter the make-believe realm (and exit it at the end) reminds us a bit of what Doyce was aiming at with the Grimm Therapy game.
But it’s the music that makes the show. Catchy tunes, in a variety of genres, interesting, non-cloying, and highly addictive. Good stuff. Now I wish there was an (authorized) CD out there with more than four songs on it. Though it sounds like there’s some swag coming this spring …
