More comics I’m reading …
- Wolverine #30 (Marvel): Wolvie and Elektra lead an assault on Hydra and the Gorgon. But, not surprisingly, it all goes wrong (this being part 5 of the inevitable 6-part arc). Mark Millar’s story is appropriately bloody, but Romita, Jr.’s art is again too blocky.
- Wonder Woman #215-217 (DC): Obeying Athena, the new queen of Olympus, the still-blind Diana leads a party down into Tartarus. But can even she succeed Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus? Well, if she had a secret ally with a lot to gain from it, perhaps so … Rucka wraps up a bundle of loose plot threads, just in time for …
- Wonder Woman #218-219 (DC): OMAC Project cross-overs, especially the latter. We finally get to see who’s a better fighter, Superman or Wonder Woman — as well as who’s better able to act when need be. Pretty good stuff.
- Astonishing X-Men #11 (Marvel): Prof. X battles, physically and mentally, with the newly-self-aware and mobile Danger Room. It looks like it may be defeated … until you notice we’re not at #12 yet, so the TPB collection would not be complete. Which explains why things get apparely very bad, very quickly, at the end.
- Year One: Batman/Ra’s al Ghul #1 (DC): Victim of an automatic cross-over pool, dagnabbit. The now-dead Ra’s seems to be extracting revenge (in between his origin flashbacks) by preventing anyone in Gotham from dying … Clusy story by Devin Grayson, clumsy art by Paul Gulacy.
