Everyone else is covering the impending hurricane strike on New Orleans in more detail, so there’s not much point in my doing so. I don’t have family or friends living there, but we have a lot of folks in my company in the NO area, and a major office in Baton Rouge. Thoughts and prayers extend that direction, regardless.

  1. Turns out there was a bit more direct impact on me: our Baton Rouge office, which oversees a lot of craft work on local petrochem refineries, is a major craft payroll site. The office is closed today, meaning we have to run craft payroll from Houston and have the checks FedExed out. Which falls under my department now to do …

  2. Well, my stepsister’s husband who works for FEMA was sent to Mobile to be ready to go in to New Orleans, etc in the Hurricane’s wake. However, with the change in Katrina’s path, he is actually in the wake. This means he can estimate the damange to the hotel he’s staying for FEMA before he leaves for New Orleans.
