Notification

Okay, miracle of miracles, I appear to have MT-Notifier finally working. It’s been broken for several upgrades, and I finally (being fully up to date) decided to give a stab at getting it to work.

(MT-Notifier lets you “subscribe” to a post and get update e-mails when a comment is made there.)

To be fair, its lack of function (most recently, at least) was due to my own error. Or, rather, due to bad FTPing of new files. Once the author raised a couple of items, I got the basic setup working just fine.

One thing that is lacking (again, to be fair, only the other direction) are decent installation instructions for the program. I had no idea what behavior to look for in the upgrade (a screen saying “Updating tables now” kind of thing, it turns out), and thus had no idea that it wasn’t working properly.

Another thing is not documented is that if you are, yourself, the author of a post (or, perhaps, the system owner), then you don’t get subscription notifications (if you are automatically getting notifications about new comments anyway). That’s very clever and very nice, but, again, not having it documented made testing things a bit difficult.

That all said, the basic MT-Notifier functionality is (yay!) finally working, so you can either subscribe to a post while commenting (by clicking the little box) or subscribe to a post without commenting (by putting your e-mail address at the bottom). A zillion apologies for it taking this long to get working (and many thanks to Les who kept gently nagging me about it).
