A mildly busy, somewhat unfocused weekend.

  • Had Jackie over for dinner Friday evening — or, rather, went out with her to the Claim Jumper.  It was both uncrowded and of mediocre food quality, both of which were surprising and, I suspect, connected.
  • Went and watched Doyce be athletic Saturday morning, complete with much photography.  Went home and relaxed.
  • Watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with Kitten — the last of the PG HP films, and about at her limit of scariness.  The rest will have to wait for her to get a bit older (by her own admission).
  • Watched Doctor Who “The Lazarus Experiment” (which was entertaining) and the premiere of Flash Gordon (which was not).  More on one or the other of those some other time.
  • Off to church Sunday morning, then to Target for Back-to-School shopping (notebooks and pens and pencils and the like).
  • Back home for more relative relaxation.  Did up the KOA billing, watched some Peabody & Sherman, had pizza from Big Bill’s, and generally enjoyed ourselves.

Not a bad weekend, at that, upon consideration.

  1. You must have been tired when you posted this. You’ve got that Doctor Who link in there three times, once comparing it to itself and once for Doyce’s triathlon, which can’t be right!

  2. I watched the Flash Gordon pilot. It was moderately entertaining, for all that it was completely derivative and had nothing new for us. Of course, I went in with very low expectation, so low that I essentially could not be disappointed. Seeing it in HD with limited commercial breaks probably didn’t hurt, either.

I liked it better than the 1-1/2 episodes of Masters of Science Fiction I’ve seen. They apparently define “master” differently than I do.

  3. Well, that’s the risk of an anthology show …

Flash was, as you note, nothing special, new, or interesting — well, aside from playing the game, “Okay, who is that person in the standard Flash Gordon canon?” which can only take you so far.

On the other hand, Painkiller Jane not only had a season-flashback show, but couched it all as a dream, too, which is like two serious strikes. Yeesh.
