I can’t decide if this movie is going to be really stupid or pretty decent — but the trailer for the new Iron Man is certainly fun.

Ohhhh…..
Pretty!
The Amazing Karnak Predicts … Lots More Armored Heroes in Paragon City. With Fly. And Jet Boots.
Well, that *will* be a change from Loganesque Claws Scrappers. ;P
Or the Hulk and Superman clones.
I was pleased when I heard that they were having Stark build the bulky gray armor before the fancy red and gold version. Updating the origin without disregarding the original seems like a good idea.
Tony Stark seems a bit too glib (if that’s the word I want). It’s as if he’s always trying to be funny without succeeding. He comes off as a bit of a jerk. I guess that’s okay, as the modern Stark seems to have those qualities, up to a point. I hope it doesn’t make him too unsympathetic.
I notice that the clip doesn’t contain the shot that had fans going wild at the SDCC. Interesting.
The trailer left me wondering a couple of things. Does Stark have a heart condition? Is his Uni-beam always glowing? (At least it’s a circle and not that ugly triangle!)
I was pleased to see the gray bulky armor. I thought the update of Viet Nam to Afghanistan (I’m guessing) was quite appropriate.
Yes, Tony seems (granted it’s just trailers) kind of a jerk. A bit of Ultimate IM in there, or a bit of Doc Strange. I don’t think it takes away — it may even make his personal story arc a bit stronger.
I inferred that Stark had a heart issue — “I should already be dead” and the omnipresent chest glow — but it’s not 100% clear.
Hmmm…
In the latest cartoons he comes across to me as, if not “glib”, at least very Snarky. So in my mind it seems that Robert Downey Jr. has done a very good job of carrying that character concept forward into the movie.
