Ran across a reference to a new tool from Google, Sync for Mobile, which lets you sync your Google Calendars with your Blackberry calendar.
So I start pondering this as a way to get my work Exchange calendar synced onto a Google Calendar, which would make keeping track of items there a *lot* easier than either firing up Outlook outside of working hours or poking through my Blackberry to look at it.
Alas, after reviewing the help forums, it looks like it’s not quite ready for this setup. In particular, there are issues with synchronizing to GCals other than the default (which is not what I want, even as an initial step), and there are even more serious problems with GSync deleting old events on the BB (and recurring ones more than 6 months out), which then Exchange treats as deleted, too. Yikes.
So … maybe something to wait for a while before installing.
What I really really really want is some way to aggregate all of my various calendars into a single place where I can view them all and, at the same time, keep them discrete.
The Blackberry can sort of do that, but it’s not the best interface to use, albeit the most portable which makes it immensely handy.
Still, I’d like to be able to have a single place where I can see my combined Work, Personal, and various other calendars associated with courses that I’m involved in, without having to go through a lot of effort.
My experience with GCals has been that I need to keep importing data from Outlook, which is more work than I want to do, and it’s not as easy to manipulate meetings on it as it is to, say, just pop open an Outlook appointment window.
Alas, my new workplace is Lotus Notes now, which only complicates things further.
I could wish for the ability to more easily see both my Outlook and Google calendars on my Blackberry. For my purposes, I would really like to see my Outlook calendar as one of my secondary GCal calendars so I could easily answer questions like, “Are we doing anything on date X” without checking multiple systems.
