The House passed today — by 213-197 — its version of a spy/surveillance bill that pointedly does not include the telecommuncations company immunity clause approved by the Senate and demanded by the White House.

As to what will happen in Conference with the Senate, who knows? If the telco immunity provision is left out, the question will be whether the “absolute vital interest of national security” that the White House keeps shouting about will trump making the telcos — and Administration — safe from whatever those nassssty law suits might uncover.
