Oh, my, this look-ahead to the day before the election is wonderful. One of my favorite tunes from one of my favorite shows, with some marvelous little touches thrown in.
Of course, I’m not sure I want to carry the analogy too far, considering how the fight at the barricades actually turned out …

Yes, it ends badly at the Barricades, but shortly after that Eponine dies (poor Eponine) and Javert hangs himeself after he finally realizes he is evil and not Jean Valjean.
But yeah, we do not want to draw too amny parallels. 🙂

Doesn’t Javert throw himself into the Siene? Great piece of stage craft as well.
In the book he throws himself into the Seine, but in the musical it looked like he hung himself (Might be easier to stage and comprehend).
I’m trying to recall, and I seem to think in the stage production I saw in London, he threw himself into the Seine. Certainly his death song (which is also excellent) ends with a long “falling” note.

Just watched it again on Youtube, and I must have been confused by the action since yeah, it is a falling note, and duh, no way someone could be singing while hanging.
And just noticed an amusing bit of Trivia:
Philip Quast, who I only knew from Ultraviolet looks to be the Javert for the uk productions, or at least he is the one singing on all the vids out on Youtube. While watching it I was sitting here going, “Oooooh, that’s the priest from Ultraviolet, why is he singing?”….it was an odd moment, just like noticing that Steve from Coupling is the main from Ultraviolet.
