Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- America’s most popular names of 2008 | The Baby Name Wizard – Nothing too horrific here, fortunately. .
- Increased Food Intake Alone Explains Rise In Obesity In United States, Study Finds – Actually, this is interesting — it’s not so much that we’ve become more couch potatoes, but that we’re stuffing our faces more (while we do so?).
- Pepsi faced with shareholder protest by ex-gay fundies – Yeah, Teh Evill Gayz, they are such the haters. If only society could be rid of them, we would all live in such peace and happiness and puppies.
- NOM: Do As We Say, Not As We Do – “Remember, kids — hypocrisy is only reprehensible if the other guy does it!”
- Photo (NSFW) – I may be old-fashioned, but I’d stack this up against any of the siliconed, bleached, anorexic Barbie Doll wannabes that pass for models these days (spokesfolk for California Christian Republicans or not). Like over-bred dogs they’ve mutated beyond the range of viability.
- Chrysler Won’t Pay Back Government Money Loaned So Far. – The Volokh Conspiracy – – – I am surprised that there is no paper assets (equity in whatever emerges from bankruptcy) that would come from all this. Or, on the other hand, not all that much surprised.
- MPAA to teachers: don’t rip DVDs, just record your television with a camcorder – But don’t record movies with a camcorder, or the MPAA will bust your ass.
- San Francisco Muni begins to enforce imaginary no-photos policy: Cory Doctorow
- Your ashes on the Moon – I just have a sense that this isn’t a good idea (what next, storing our nuclear waste up there?).
- The Kiss of Rush: Limbaugh signals that Sarah Palin’s the One | Crooks and Liars – Thank heavens! I was so worried that Sarah was going to fade away and that the GOP might end up with someone actually articulate and moderately intelligent as a standard-bearer. But if Rush is touting Sarah as the Great White Hope, then we can all relax.
- Almighty God is a Twit(terer). – “I will follow Him … follow Him where-ever He may pooooost …”
- More things you learn from listening to Right Wing Radio… – Nobody will be surprised to discover that I have three or four different mustards in my fridge — most of them spicy, some of them distinctly Dijon …
- Intelligence Report: Pelosi Briefed on Use of Interrogation Tactics in Sept. ’02 – The Note – Yeah, no surprise here. And the plausible reason why the House Democratic leadership spoke tough but didn’t really do anything about any of this, and hasn’t gotten behind any sort of further investigation.
- Specter: Norm Coleman Should Be Seated [UPDATE: Specter “Misspoke”] – Specter … misspoke on Coleman? An interesting thought, possibly plausible (though not speaking well of him being a knee-jerk partisan for his new team, either).

“…the most prominent, articulate voice for standard run-of-the-mill good old-fashioned American conservatism was Sarah Palin”??? Nobody was more articulate than Palin? Egad!

From what I heard, people were more upset about the fact that Obama ordered his burger medium well, which is apparently a travesty and makes him unfit to lead, even though we’ve all been warned that it’s unsafe to eat meat that hasn’t been thoroughly cooked. I eat my meat well done, because red or pink meat makes me gag. Guess I’ll never be president. (Of course, I’m an atheist too, which is almost as bad. Oh, and I hate mustard, putting only ketchup on my burgers. Sorry, BD, but my tastes in food are exactly the same as when I was 8. I hate grown-up food.)

I was very excited when Pelosi became Speaker, as her talk of bipartisan leadership was what I wanted to hear. Unfortunately, she immediately began to oppose every action the Republicans tried to take, and I lost all respect for her. Nothing she does/did can surprise me now.

In the TMI department, I prefer small-busted women. I think the sexiest woman on TV is Cote DePablo, NCIS’ Ziva David. I can’t even look at Playboy these days, preferring issues from the 70s. I wonder if so many guys like big breasts because they’ve been led to believe that big breasts are what guys like. Well, I’ve never been susceptible to the herd mentality, preferring to make up my own mind. Odd duck, aren’t I? (Except, of course, among readers of ***DDtB, where that’s undoubtedly the norm.)
Honestly speaking, I’m quite ecumenical when it comes to breast size — except in cases where things have been taken to an artificial extreme.
Of course, I also remember the saying I once heard — “Anything more than a handful is a waste.”
The whole Burger thing is so far beyond the pale of rational discourse, I cannot even comment on it.
Oy, I order steak medium-rare but burgers medium-well, too: the inside of a steak has pretty much only seen my knife, but the inside of a burger has been around the BLOCK, baby.
The Retrozone site is, um, tit’s up! I also like Shorpy, which is an old photo archive with lots of DC archive photos. http://www.shorpy.com/
Shorpy is pretty cool. The Retroverse site is (still) coming up for me.
