Unblogged Bits for Thu, 11 Mar 2010, 8:01PM

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. CNN “geek anthem” post is implausibly similar to scrappy blogger’s earlier article – But remember — Big Media is always the victim of Evil Bloggers and Pirates.
  2. 0-day exploits for IE flaw another reason to switch to IE8 – If you’re still on IE6, or even IE7, you should change to IE8 (or current versions of Firefox or Chrome). The point here is not browser wars; the older browsers are simply not safe.
  3. Sect linked to measles deaths – Times LIVE – Once you turn 18 (or even your country’s “age of majority”), if you choose to eschew medical treatment, that is (mostly) your concern. If you decline vaccination, that potentially more harm to public health, but okay. But I’m sorry — you do not get, to my way of thinking, a public pass on treating your child’s illness or, I daresay, having your child vaccinated. There’s all sorts of slippery slope risks there, I grant you, but there are some very explicitly negative consequences (deaths) from the reverse.
