Unblogged Bits for Fri, 16 Apr 2010, 2:01AM

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Fox News yanks Sean Hannity from Cincinnati Tea Party rally he was set to star in | Show Tracker | Los Angeles Times – It’s one thing to promote Tea Parties … it’s another thing for Tea Parties to directly profit off of Fox’s broadcasting, I guess.
  2. Obama lays out bold and visionary revised space policy | Bad Astronomy | Discover Magazine – I confess that I’m an an idealist who “wants it all” when it comes to a space program. But, at least as presented here, the Obama plans announced today are a lot better than the drifting policy coming from the White House for the last decade or two.
  3. 5 Candid Photography Tips For Shooting From The Hip | Photoble.com – I love candid shots. I need to give these techniques a try.
  4. Bathrooms of the Future | Interior Designs And Home Ideas – Most of these are goofy, many of them are for the rich, but the first one seems eminently practical.
  5. Obama extends hospital visitation rights to same-sex partners of gays – It never fails to appall me that some folks would rather inflict emotional pain and suffering on gay partners of people in the hospital than take on a bit of personal discomfort at the situation. Three cheers and a tiger for Obama on this one.
  6. Drag and drop attachments onto messages – It’s about damn time!
  7. The goats are baaaahk!: A Googler
  8. By Refusing To Complete Census, Glenn Beck And GOP Rep Broun Will Cost Taxpayers Lots More – Nice going, chowderheads. Then we’ll hear complaints from them about how the census is over-budget …
  9. Home Library Key to Academic Success | Smart Journalism. Real Solutions. | Miller-McCune Online Magazine – I think this qualifies Katherine for automatic post-grad work.
  10. CitizenLink: Library List May Chill Free Speech – The irony here is thick on the ground. By noting books that parents have complained about … the ALA is discouraging parents from complaining? Yeesh.
  11. Federal judge rules Day of Prayer unconstitutional – San Jose Mercury News – Money graf (from the judge’s ruling): “‘It goes beyond mere “acknowledgment” of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context,’ she wrote. ‘In this instance, the government has taken sides on a matter that must be left to individual conscience.'” That seems a pretty reasonable interpretation to me. The national government has no business encouraging (or discouraging) prayer. Certainly there are plenty of religious organizations that can do that job — and that do.
  12. The Convair XFY-1 Pogo

Part of Project Hummingbird – initiated…

  13. Quote of the Day – “It needs to be fixed. Don’t you think it needs to be fixed? I haven’t heard where it most needs to be fixed. But … um … fix, yeah, it needs, I guess. We’re all fine down here … how are you?”
  14. Iceland’s disruptive volcano – The Big Picture – Boston.com – Some remarkable pix here. We have folks in my company who are “trapped” by the grounding of air travel in the UK and Mainland.
  15. Fossa named Dorian now calls Denver Zoo home – The Denver Post – Foosa aaah! Foosa oooh!
  16. Barber: Obama Is a Treasonous Traitor Bent on Destroying America – Really? I mean, really? Either we’re talking about having a serious screw loose, or we’re just blowing smoke in a rhetorically irresponsible way.
