Unblogged Bits (Thu. 30-Sep-10 1731)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Hide Lunch From Office Thieves In Healthy Meal Boxes – That’s actually rather clever.
  2. Some Android apps caught covertly sending GPS data to advertisers – As described, it’s much ado about nothing terribly new. I agree that Google should make it easier for app developers to show their privacy policy, but there’s not a whole lot else they can proactively do.
  3. Colorado to begin collecting DNA from arrestees – The Denver Post – I don’t have a significant problem with getting DNA from arrestees — but the removal of the DNA from the database should be automatic, not based on an “opt out” request.
  4. Bruce slammed over ‘delay’ tactics in court | The Spot — The Spot: Colorado politics and political news, information, analysis — The Denver Post – Oh please, please, please, Mr. Judge, fine him and slap his butt in jail.
  5. Judge swats down challenge to voter guide | The Spot — The Spot: Colorado politics and political news, information, analysis — The Denver Post – I preferred the old California ballot initiative books, which would have arguments (and responses) from outside groups for and against each measure, rather than “neutral” arguments decided upon by the legislature. Not only was it less likely to get into these kind of disputes, but the rhetoric was more entertaining and you could tell a lot about an initiative by who was speaking for and against it.
  6. McMahon Unsure What The Minimum Wage Is, But Sure That It Should Be Lower – I don’t know what I’m talking about! I have no knowledge of what the minimum wage actually is, or if my own employees are paid it! But I’m sure it should be lower for small businesses! After all, we need to make sure that small businesses are making enough money, by taking the money away from their lowest-paid employees! And I don’t know what I’m talking about!
  7. Rove: O’Donnell Has Sean Hannity To Thank If She Wins Senate Seat In Delaware – How it is that the Right lambasted Obama for noting Fox’s Rightward tilt, when they then turn around and say stuff like this, is difficult to understand. Well, difficult if you assume them to be rational, intelligent, and/or honest.
  8. Writer Mom explains how to do your reading homework. – Noting this for future use (personal and familial) …
  9. Transgendered Homecoming King Stripped of Crown – That rustling noise you hear is the sound of a million aging Fundamentalists shuddering.
  10. The Kid’s Walker: 1.6 metre bi-pedal exoskeleton for children – Newt needed one of these to help Ripley …
  11. Want fries with that non-story? – The WSJ pulled up some old news, distorted what it meant, and ran the distortion with a big headline? Inconceivable!
  12. Tea Party Coloring Book Teaches Kids That A High Tax Rate ‘Takes Away Jobs and Freedom’ – And A Low Tax Rate Gives Everyone Puppies and Fire Trucks and Pretty Flowers! (Animal shelters, fire departments, and parks not included.)
  13. Grey Area announces Shadow Cities, first location-based iPhone MMO – MMORPG begins to meet LARP?
