- Obama Executive Order Leaves In Place Many Bush-Era Policies on Faith-Based Initiatives – Unfortunate. It's difficult to tell whether this reflects what Obama really wants, or whether this is another (futile) gesture to the Religious Right (which will continue to question whether he's a True Christian™).
- P.T. Barnum was right [Pharyngula] – I thought they’d gone out of business. Alas, apparently, no. Going to the “Creation Museum” to educate your children is, frankly, like going to the Stork Museum to teach them about reproduction.
- The Department of Homeland Security Is Cracking Down On BitTorrent Sites [Seize] – When “piracy” is equated to terrorism, between the DHS and the DMCA, nothing online is safe. It’s not just the “bad guys” who have to be worried; all it takes is someone thinking that your site might have something pirated on it to have the government (or your ISP under orders from a big media company) take your site down. Isn’t that spiffy?
- Evolution is the coin of the realm – Given the brouhaha that comes up around stamps, it’s probably just as well we don’t put anyone but dead presidents on our coins. Heck, I’m surprised that FDR is still on the dime, given what an Officially Awful Person he is in some political quarters (so to speak). And Jefferson on the nickel, after all of his church-state separation talk? Egad!
