Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Story Blaming Acquaintances for Not Committing Loughner Underplays AZ Cuts in Mental Health Services: David Dayen
- Tucson Heroes: Unarmed People Who Stopped the Armed from More Killing – Interesting notes on what happened with the two “friendlies” in the crowd who were armed.
- Right-Wing’s Dupnik Pile-On Continues – Disgusting, complete with scare quotes, ad hominem attacks, and conspiracy theorizing. I think they are proving his point.
- Peter King eyes gun control measure – I don’t care for the proposal. Why should “government officials,” however we define them, get the added protection? And how do you enforce it, save by throwing up a security cordon and pat-downs and magnetometers around each Congresscritter?
- ‘Gotham High:’ The Animated Teen Batman Show That Almost Was – This looks like it just would have been fun. No, of course it isn’t canon — as long as it’s not treated as such, I wouldn’t much care.
- Original ‘Indiana Jones’ Concept Art by Jim Steranko | /Film – Very cool.
- The right finds the strangest things to whine about – What an ass.
- Top U.S. Chamber Official: The Minimum Wage Is ‘Counterproductive’ And ‘Doesn’t Help’ – The point of the minimum wage is not to help job growth, but to make the jobs that are there livable ones (or closer to it). Indeed, if I have to work two sub-minimum wage job in order to make what’s in a minimum wage job, has that helped job growth (or job availability) any? Not that it seems to matter to cheap-labor conservatives.
- YouTube – Google Goggles Sudoku Demo – This one’s for Margie.

- YouTube – The Bronx Zoo Tiger Cubs’ First Blizzard – Teh CUTE!
- White House oil spill commission to suggest more regulation offshore – Regulation is most appropriate when private actors show that they cannot self-regulate, as is painfully clear here. Of course, I have no doubt the House GOP will look to actually reduce regulation because, y’know, MONEY GOING TO MAJOR OIL COMPANIES AND OTHER FIRMS is at stake.
- Mental Demons – Don’t blink!
- The Mathematics Of Beauty « OkTrends – I continue to be fascinated by the information that OkCupid gleans from its data.
